SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES

AASPA Student Scholarship Information:

The AASPA is proud to offer scholarships to deserving PA students who are interested in a career in surgery. It is one of just many benefits that we offer to our student members.

Winners receive the following:

  1. $600 check
  2. Scholarship Certificate-suitable for framing
  3. Complimentary registration to the AASPA CME Meeting in San Francisco (October 2008) Click here for information.
  4. Ability to list "2008 AASPA Student Scholarship Winner" on your resume
  5. Recognition in our journal and on our website
  6. AASPA's famous lapel pin

The Association will award at least one $600 scholarship yearly to students in either their didactic or clinical year. To qualify, the physician assistant student must:

  1. Be enrolled in either a PA program with a surgical focus (UAB or Cornell) or demonstrate a surgical commitment based on clinical rotations (or expected clinical rotations)
  2. Demonstrate a financial need;
  3. Be in good academic standing;
  4. Be a student member of AASPA in good standing (application may be submitted with scholarship application).

To be considered, interested students will need to submit a completed Scholarship Application along the following:

  1. A completed Scholarship application (see below)
  2. A letter from their PA program verifying student status, GPA, and a copy of their transcript.
  3. Financial Need information (essay format)
  4. A letter of recommendation from PA program faculty, surgical PA, surgeon, or preceptor.
  5. A short (500 word) narrative explaining their desire to practice in surgery and career goals
  6. If necessary, an application for AASPA student membership and appropriate dues.
  7. List of completed/expected clinical rotations

All information must be postmarked by July 1, 2008 and submitted to:

Applications will not be considered complete until all the above information is received. Please note that the application cycle for 2007 is closed.

For the 2008 application window (November 15, 2007 through July 1, 2008), please note that all information must be postmarked by July 1, 2008. Recipients will be notified by August 15, 2008. Recipients will be notified by August 15, 2008. Awards will be announced and distributed at the AASPA 2008 CME Meeting in San Francisco. The decision of the Scholarship Committee is final.
