I am writing to express my intention to run as the next Director of Education for AASPA. For the past two years, I have had the pleasure of serving as the 2015-2017 AASPA Student Representative. During this time, I have actively coordinated mentorship and shadowing opportunities for students, represented student views to the AASPA Board of Directors, written articles for the AASPA periodical Sutureline, and assisted with the annual AASPA CME and Surgical Update conference. In addition, I also have initiated outreach to PA programs, PA residency and fellowship programs across the United States. Prior to joining AASPA, I worked for nearly 5 years both as a Pre-Medical Intern and Registered Nurse in the specialty of pediatric cardiology in Fairfax, VA. During this time, I also held a position with the Biology and Chemistry Departments at Shenandoah University in Winchester, VA, teaching laboratory courses in general biology, chemistry, anatomy and physiology. I also worked periodically as a substitute teacher and nurse for the Loudoun County Public Schools in VA. In 2014, I began attending the George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences, graduating in the spring of 2016 with a Master’s degree in Physician Assistant Studies. Finally pursuing a childhood dream, I then began practicing as a surgical PA in the specialty of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery in Arlington, VA. I believe that the Director of Education position is an opportunity to advance and uphold educational excellence for the members of AASPA. As evidenced by my background, I have had a longstanding passion for education! It is my hope to ensure that the educational activities offered by the organization are applicable and designed to enhance the knowledge of today's surgical PA. Medicine is the art of lifelong learning! One of my favorite life quotes is by author Helen Keller: "I long to accomplish a great and noble task, but it is my chief duty to accomplish small tasks as if they were great and noble." In both my daily and professional life, this has guided many of my decisions and way of practice. If elected, I will continue to live by this principle and strive for diligence in all tasks both small and great. I am proud to be a surgical PA and have a passion to see other surgical PAs become better equipped and educated in their profession. It would be an honor and privilege to serve as a member of the Board of Directors in the position as the next Director of Education. Thank you for your consideration and support!

Director of Marketing

I write to seek your support for my candidacy for the position of AASPA Director of Marketing. Since becoming a "pre-PA" member in 2003, I have had the opportunities to serve as Student Director, Secretary, CME Committee Chair, Director of Education, and Central-Director-At-Large; I believe these opportunities have taught me a great deal about this organization, how it operates, and how it succeeds. I have seen how AASPA supports the unique needs and interests of each PA, PA student, and pre-PA student member. AASPA provides a forum for sharing ideas, professional networking, and professional progression through new educational opportunities. I am thankful to have been a part of this organization as it has grown throughout the years. If elected to the position of Director of Marketing, I intend to improve AASPA's current marketing and communications efforts while keeping aligned with the organization's overall business plans, goals and objectives. I hope to promote increased visibility for AASPA by enhancing the brand and its impact on current and future surgical PAs. I intend to support the CEO and other members of the Board of Directors by providing expertise and counseling on all marketing and communications as needed. I strongly believe in the continued growth and success of AASPA and look forward to doing my part to help the organization reach its goals. If elected, I will take on projects and responsibilities with enthusiasm and dedication. It would be an honor to serve our organization and its constituency as a member of the Board of Directors.

Chief Delegate - AAPA HOD

Jerry Simons

Jerry Simons, MPAS, PA-C

I am a surgical PA with 21 years' experience in surgery, surgical education, hyperbarics, urgent care and wound care. I have had the good fortune to participate in AASPA in many different leadership positions and wish to continue to serve the surgical PA profession by continuing on the board of directors. My experience in a number of leadership roles has helped to keep me up to date regarding changes within our association as well as enhance our involvement with regional and national surgical associations, including the ACS and on the national level. I have been an AAPA house of delegates representative in the past, and take pride in reminding the AAPA and their leaders of the vital role of surgical PAs and our key role in our future. As a member of the AASPA board, I will represent our Surgical Physician Assistants in a positive and professional manner.
