SPECIALTY  PRACTICE  AREAS
The Surgical Physician Assistant is a highly skilled clinician who has received didactic and clinical training to function in all areas of the peri-operative environment. Surgical PAs are licensed by each state to practice, and must take a national certification exam given by the National Commission for the Certification of PA’s (NCCPA.NET). Each hospital board will then credential the Surgical PA for specific practice privileges.

As stated, PAs can work in all peri-operative areas. This can include Pre-Admission Testing, Intra-operative first assisting, PACU care, SICU care, step-down unit responsibilities, outpatient clinic, office practice, and even home care. In short, where can you find a surgical PA working? The answer is simple: in the same environments where the supervising surgeon has practice privileges.

For additional information, read “The Effective Utilization of the Surgical PA” and click on your practice area below. Our famous and respected newsletter, the SUTURELINE, remains a great mechanism to recruit the PA for your surgical team. What are you waiting for?
